We are now on day 4 of trap training. The pigeons have gotten more and more responsive every day to my calls. I am maintaining my consistency as I do this with time, and with the call I am using to get them inside to eat. I am very impressed with how quickly they learn. It seems that this process will be even easier next year if the birds are born in the loft. The youngest birds seem to take to this conditioning a lot quicker than the ones that are even slightly older. I am still going to give them just a little longer before I do my first release. I want to be sure they are ready and are not going to take off on me. I also want to be sure the weather will be nice and that I will have the time to spend waiting for some to come back if they are late.
Check out this video, the first day it took roughly 15 minutes to get 5 out of the 8 in. Here we are on day 4 and all 8 are trapping in in about 1 minute of being called. Once again and as per usual, Barney is the first one to trap.
