It seems that the Texas power grid has failed. Texas has an independent grid from the rest of their country. They are North Americas largest power producer. They rely mostly on coal and natural gas generation. Many have tried to blame renewable energy for this failure but the answer is very clear. Texas has deregulated their power grid so much and the companies had been advised for a long time now to weatherize the system because it was known that in extreme weather the system would fail. They managed to save themselves a lot of money and make nice profits by not taking these precautions. The result of this is frozen gas lines that can no longer supply fuel to the power plants etc. Even the wind turbines that were frozen would only account for about 7% of Texas electricity over this winter. Again, if properly maintained and weatherized this also could have been avoided.
