I have been having so much fun with the pigeons. I have also been having a lot of fun with my uncle, the reason why I got into this in the first place. We have been working with each other to help make this enjoyable for both of us. I’m kind of forcing him to do things different than he has in the past but it seems like he is enjoying the change.
I have taken the birds on several training tosses, and even though I was nervous about it I am starting to get better and more confident in the birds to get home. I did however lose 3 birds during this training. This is the hardest part of this sport as I am getting attached to these little guys so losing one is pretty hard. The birds are now about 4-6 months old and are becoming very interested in each other for mating. I had one lay a couple eggs that ended up broken. This is something I need to avoid so they don’t waste their energy on producing eggs. I need to wait until early next year to let them breed and I think I have a good idea as to what pairs will be put together.
Now we are coming up on their first race, I am excited to see how well they do.
